This week we are looking at the Niyama (moral code) Santosha – contentment.
Being content allows us to experience life as it is right now. Knowing that we do not have to wait for some event or achievement before we can feel happy or at peace. Have you ever said, it will be ok when…. I get a new job, move house, finish these exams, loose a few pounds and so on.
Allow yourself to feel ok, right now
We all have happiness and peace within us, we just need to take a moment to notice and be grateful for what we do have and how far we have come. By pinning our hopes onto something external so that we can feel ok can mean that we miss all the wonderful things we have right now. Just like the contented cat in this image, there are so many things we can be grateful for to help us feel content.
When we come from a place of contentment and feeling positive, we move moving forward towards our goals in a much more effective way. When we feel content, we are better at helping others. When we feel content, the universe sees this and sends positive energy back to us with even more abundance. 🙂
In our asana practise I asked you to appreciate what your body can do now and how far you’ve come. Let go of the need to be better so that you can feel at peace. That feeling of happiness and peace is within us now – we just have open our hearts and feel it.
Who we really are, right now, is already good enough – you are amazing, rejoice in this!
