This week in class, we moved from reflection into action with the theme Your Sankalpa/Intention. After exploring the chakras over the past term, it felt like the right moment to pause, listen inward, and ask: What am I ready to say yes to? What would feel really good to carry with you off the mat today?
Sankalpa is a Sanskrit word meaning heartfelt intention or resolve. It’s not about goal-setting in the usual sense, it’s deeper than that. A Sankalpa arises from your innermost truth and invites you to live in alignment with it, gently and consistently.
We began with grounding breath work and I decided to shake things us by turning our practice upside down (well, nearly!). we started standing with gentle Sun Salutations, then we built heat with twists and heart-openers, stirring clarity in the mind and courage in the heart. Each pose became a stepping stone. We then eased into hamstring and hip release with Pada Hastasana, grounding us in what felt steady and true.
Our closing Yoga Nidra offered a quiet space to let our Sankalpa settle gently into the body, like planting a seed in soft, fertile soil.
Something really good to carry off the mat 🙂
